Electricity Prepaid Meter Thief Sentenced to 2 Months Imprisonment


A 25-year-old man, Yaknan David have been sentenced to a two months imprisonment for stealing an electricity prepaid meter.
A Karmo Upper Area Court in the FCT on Tuesday sentenced David of no fixed address on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft which he admitted.
The presiding officer, Mohammed Abubakar, gave the ruling an option of fine of N8,000 and warned him to desist from the life of crime.
Abubakar ordered that the electricity prepaid meter be returned to the owner.
Mrs. David Kafancha, the prosecuting counsel, had told the court that on Aug. 2, Samuel Ada of ABM Plaza, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.
Kafancha said that the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s premises and stole the electricity prepaid meter valued N30,000.
However, she told the court that during police investigation and interrogation, the stolen electricity prepaid meter was recovered from the convict and he also admitted committing the crime.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 343 and 287 of the Penal Code, pm news reports.
