Rivers State Govt Endorses PHED’S Energy Effiency Programs

The Rivers State Government has endorsed the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company’s programme on energy efficiency management.

The endorsement was communicated to the Chief Executive Officer, PHED, Jay McCoskey by the state’s Ministry of Power.
In the letter titled, ”Letter of endorsement and support for the Rivers State energy efficiency programmes”, Commissioner for Power, Honourable, Micheal Eleonu Anwuri conveyed the government’s support to the company.
“The Energy Efficiency Programme of your company is aimed at educating electricity consumers in the State on how to minimise energy consumption, thus, reducing high bills of energy consumed and pay affordable bills.
“Ministry of Power has no reservation in endorsing such programme and willing to support you”, the letter said.
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has embarked on the energy efficiency programmes with a view to reducing complaints from customers on billing issues.
Jay Mccoskey has said that efficient use of energy would lead to lower bills adding that it would also lead to increased productivity and enhanced profit margin for commercial and industrial customers.
“Knowledge about the energy usage and ability to manage the consumption level would lower operating and production cost for commercial and industrial customers”, he said.
The management of PHED according to McCoskey has trained both customer facing and internal staff across its operation area to further educate customers on the importance of energy efficiency management.
The PHED boss further noted that the management had in its strategic plans lined up series of enlightenment on energy efficiency in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states.

Communities are not left out in the enlightenment programme aimed at promoting energy saving culture and provision of energy efficient products.
