Kaduna Electric Urged To Roll Out More Prepaid Meters To Address Estimated Billing

The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has been urged to roll out more prepaid meters to address the problem of estimated billing being faced by customers yet to be metered within the network area.
The Head of Kaduna Electric’s, Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, in a press release,
the advice was given by the Sokoto State Chairman of the National Youth Association, Mukhtar Bello Abdulraham, who, after vending at the company’s Sokoto Area Office, commended Kaduna Electric for providing free prepaid meters to its Customers in Sokoto State.
Recall that Kaduna Electric announced recently that it had started mass metering of customers.
Abdulraham who stated this after vending at Sokoto Area Office said providing a prepaid meter is a welcome development, adding that the new meters would curb the controversially estimated billing system.
The chairman, who is a resident of Bafarawa Housing Estate, Sokoto under Kaduna Road feeder which is among the feeders where the meter deployment started, said: “the new prepaid meter would make for more prudent use of power by the residents.”
According to him, the prepaid meters system was efficient and reliable and ensures no more dispute over disconnection for non-payment as it is a pay as you use the system, adding that the smart meter would eradicate the menace of energy theft and bypass by the consumers.
Abdulraham also advised all customers that the Company deserves cooperation and appreciation from the members of the general public in ensuring power supply to all and the success of the metering programme.
