Yahaya Idris, a cable vandal, caught at Tashar Yari in Zaria had been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court in Zaria.
Inspector Sarki Abdurrahman, the prosecutor read the charges as follows; trespassing into Kaduna electric Transformer and stealing 4 meters incomer cable valued at N200, 000 and sold it to one Alhaji who is at large at the rate of N20, 000.
The Chief Magistrate, Umaru Bature, in his ruling found the vandal, Yahaya Idris guilty of the charges against him as follows; for criminal trespass he has been sentenced to 6 months in prison with option of N5,000 fine, in addition to that he was charged with theft and sentenced to one year imprisonment without an option or fine, he was also charged N200, 000 for compensation of stolen cable or with an option of 1 and half year imprisonment to run consecutively.
The Head, Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, reacting to the judgment, commended the judiciary for their efforts and prompt adjudication of cases before the courts and assured them of maximum cooperation from Kaduna Electric at all times.
Abdullahi also hoped that this sentence would serve as a deterrent to would-be vandals.
