PHED Launches Energy Efficiency School Enlightenment Program

PHED launched its Energy Efficiency School Enlightenment Program, this afternoon at Community Secondary School, Nkpogu in Elekahia. The program is aimed at enlightening students on the concept of Electricity Distribution and Energy Efficiency, as well as developing young energy ambassadors. The program started at about 1 pm and ended at about 2:30 pm in the school auditorium with Cheif Operations Officer (COO), Commissioner for Power, the Mayor of Port-Harcourt and other relevant persons present.

The COO, Engr Kingsley Achife, in the opening remarks, explained the importance of electricity, electricity consumption and how energy wastage affects us all.


The Commissioner for Power, Hon. Mike Anwuri, reiterated the importance of these young generation having a positive attitude towards electricity. He also encouraged them to pay attention to their environment and try to help PHED by reporting anything unusual they come across relating to electricity to the appropriate authority.

The Commissioner also encouraged the kids to consider themselves as Energy ambassadors and also consider a career in the electricity industry.

Energy Efficiency Program Manager, Mr Franklyn Ajaegbu made a very comprehensive presentation right after the introduction of the Mayor, Hon (Engr) Christian Chiokwa. He took his time to explain Energy efficiency to the children and different ways to minimise energy consumption.

“Electricity has to be paid for, and whateer you pay for, you have to maximize.

It was emphasised that the children should take it upon themselves to educate their parents on energy consumption and energy wastage so that an electricity efficient society can be fostered.
