Vandalism Rate Drops In Rivers State – PHED

The spokesman for the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), Mr John Onyi, disclosed on Saturday that the rate of vandalism of electricity installations in Rivers state has reduced over the past two months.

According to Mr John, the company lost only one substation in the last two months which is a far cry from the high incidents of vandalism that have occurred in the state in time past.
He attributed this positive development to the high awareness being created by the firm and effective surveillance, and monitoring by neighbourhood vigilantes and the law enforcement agencies in the state.

Mr John expressed his regret in the negative impact that vandalism of electricity installations has caused, especially transformers. He also commended law enforcement agents as well as the neighbourhood vigilantes their effort.

Meanwhile, customers of PHED may have to wait for a longer period to have the prepaid meters being promised by the firm.
Mr John Onyi, also added that although the company is determined to provide the 50,000 prepaid meters this year, customers are still needed to exercise some patience.

He said, “We are still working towards actualising the plan. It is being done outside the country because the Nigerian plant has not started.
“We are doing company investment to bridge the gap”.
