Ogbunabali Community Assists PHED In Electricity Debt Collection

The Ogbunabali Community in Port-Harcourt has reportedly inaugurated a 5 man committee headed by Maxwell Hanetu to ensure that every resident pays his /her electricity bill. The community is doing this to help collect the electricity debt owed by some of its residents to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED).
To this end, a town crier and a vehicle-mounted public address system have already gone round the community to announce to the residents the position of the community towards payment of electricity bills.
The duty of the committee among others is to work closely with PHED officials and to ensure that any customer within the community disconnected for non-payment of electricity bills will not reconnect illegally and if he does, he will be fished out by the community.
In addition to the above, the committee is to further sensitize their community on any challenge encountered by PHED in the course of service delivery.
Furthermore, any action seen to be inimical to the existence of PHED should be stopped with a view to enhancing the mutual relationship between the company and its customers.
The support for PHED on revenue generation is coming on the heels of series of enlightenment meetings between both parties arising from protests by the community on what was termed “poor service delivery”.
But after appreciating the challenges of PHED, the community realized the enormous task in sustaining the power industry through prompt payment of energy consumed.
From the foregoing, the management of PHED commends the action of Ogbunabali Community in partnering with her not only on cash collection but in other areas aimed at enhancing mutual benefits.
It is hoped that other communities who are in the habit of intimidating, harassing, inflicting of bodily injuries to staff members of PHED and blatantly refusing to pay for energy used should take a cue from Ogbunabali Community’s kind stance.
