Kaduna Electric To Invest In Alternative Power Generation

The Management of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has revealed that it has plans to invest in generating electricity from sources alternative to the national grid. This was revealed by Mr Idris Abdullahi, the company’s Spokesperson on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the Company’s Head of Compliance, Malam Lawal Lawal, gave the indication during a Customer Consultative Forum in Kaduna. Malam Lawal explained that the move to alternative energy had become necessary in the face of the GENCO’s inability to generate enough electricity. He also mentioned that it has become necessary for the company to add to its allocation from the national grid, which is not enough to serve the companies customers properly.

Lawal also revealed that Kaduna Electric has begun negotiations with energy firms to provide them with Solar power and Wind power sources.

He said the company had invested much on the procurement of metres which he said had passed a rigorous process before they were certified as fit for installation, noting that the company had completed a digital mapping of customers to address the complaints resolution turnaround time.

He, however,  lamented the rate at which the smart metres were being compromised, a situation he described as sabotaging the efforts of the company.

Lawal, therefore, appealed to the public to embrace whistle blowing on all forms of illegal acts, stressing that both customers and the company would benefit from it.

The Chief Marketing and Customer Services Officer, Malam Murtala Bello, reiterated that the customer formed the backbone of the business and a major stakeholder in the value chain.

“Given the role of the customer in this business, we see you as partners in progress whose support we need to work together as a team.

“There are misconceptions about our operations that need to be corrected and this is what an interactive session such as this hopes to address,’’ Bello said.
