KEDC Releases Press Statement On Tax Allegations

Kaduna Electric recently released a statement in responses to claims from the Kaduna Internal Revenue service which have threatened to close the utility companies head office based on allegations of non-payment of taxes.

The Press Statement addressed these allegations and debunked them as false while elaborating on the current situation.

Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service that they will seal our head office over nonpayment of PAYE tax to the state government.
We are dismayed that the state revenue service was not entirely factual in its assertions regarding our company. While it is true that we are in arrears in settling our PAYE obligations to the state government, we, however, dispute the figures presented as they do not reflect the exact amount in question. It is on record that we have since started remitting the taxes into government coffers monthly and have committed to offsetting the backlog in the nearest future.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we are aware of the obligations we owe the state governments where we operate and we will continue to live up to those obligations and responsibilities. We urge officials of the state revenue service to exercise restraint and support us in discharging our duties and obligations to them. As we do our utmost regarding this matter, we call on all our customers including the state government to also help us by settling their outstanding electricity bills in order for us to serve the public even better.
