Benin electricity distribution company has revealed plans to release a power schedule for customers under its franchise areas. As part of the efforts to enhance the energy efficiency of consumers under its watch, the Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC) is set to commence the publication of power availability schedule for customers in Edo and Delta states.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BEDC, Funke Osibodu, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, Edo State, said the power availability schedule initiative was necessitated due to the recent reduction in electricity production nationwide. She said the initiative would not only equip customers on predictions about schedules of power supplies, interruptions as well as when to be restored but also aid them to plan their activities around the schedule.
Osibodu, who mentioned that the schedule publication would start with Edo and Delta, and later cover Ondo and Ekiti states said the load shedding time may sometimes vary due to changes in generation, technical challenges and other unforeseen events beyond control. According to her, the load management schedule was prepared based on the roster submitted by each of the company’s 24 business units, while codes were assigned to each 11KV feeder emanating from injection substations that feed specific areas in the four states.
This is a welcome development for BEDC and other DisCos should follow suit. BEDC is also currently facing investigation from NERC concerning the reports from Ondo South leaders who claim that 4 local governments in the district have been cut off the National Grid without reason.
