The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, on Tuesday 11thof July, celebrated the commissioning of the new injection substation at Akwa-Ibom, Uyo. The 2 X 15 MVA 4-Lane Injection substation was officially commissioned by His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom state after a test run to improve power supply in communities of the state.
The Executive Governor was ably accompanied by the Managing Director of 4Power Consortium Ltd Engr Matthew Edevbie and the Minority Leader in the current Senate Godswill Akpabio who also graced the event. The people of Akwa Ibom came out in mass to celebrate the improvement and appreciate the governor for his efforts.
Mr John Onyi, PHED Spokesperson, who was also present at the event said that the new substation is will result in great improvement in power supply in Akwa-Ibom state. The new substation came in to relieve the old ones, which are already overloaded, resulting in very unstable power supply.
According to Engr. Matthias, the project coordinator, since the substation has been put in place, communities connected to it have been enjoying up to 18 hours of power supply daily.
“I must say that this station is unique, in the sense that, we have brought an initiative that eliminates the conventional outdoor method. Everything is compact and indoor” Engr. Matthias said.
