Ever since we could say UP NEPA! We also learned the craft of blame throwing. Whenever we had no power or too much power we just knew Nepa was up to no good. NEPA and PHCN are no more, what we have serving the country’s power need are the 11 DISCO’s and then the GENCO’s. Each of these sects have set in place several policies that to aid the, boost their performances to their customers. The success of these policies are yet to be fully analyzed but we cannot fail to recognize and even praise its ingenuity.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recently set apart a unit focusing on energy efficiency. The first project they embarked on was sensitizing different communities and schools on the need of conserving and using energy efficiency. This, in the long run, reduces the cost of power and motivates consumers to pay their bills.

The king of the community was quick to welcome to project as it was one that would encourage bill remittance by the community members but complained about the irregularity of power supply and pleaded for this to be looked into.

After the exchange program, the bulbs were handed over to the Bayelsa ministry of Environment for proper disposal. While this is a laudable project, there are questions about its sustainability and continuity. PHED and the Energy Efficiency department says this project would be replicated in the other states it serves.
