Fashola FG Releases N268Bn for Power, Works, Housing In 2016 Fiscal Year

The Minister of Power Works and Housing has affirmed that 90 TCN projects would be due for commissioning nationwide in the next few months. He also noted that the Federal Government is investing in the expansion of the transmission capacity of the transmission company of Nigeria (TCN) in order to effectively and efficiently transmit power nationwide.

He made this known during the 26th monthly power sector operators meeting held at the Ohiya Transmission Substation, Umuahia, Abia state on Monday the 9th of April 2018. He also made calls to stakeholders to identify their roles and accept responsibilities for the purpose of improving services to the general populace.

Fashola said; Government is investing in the expansion of the Transmission Capacity through TCN, by building more Substations and expanding existing ones, to improve service capacity where the Consumer demand has increased, and reinforcing the capacity of existing transmission lines. At the moment, there are over 90 (ninety) TCN projects for transmission expansion, which TCN will be commissioning nationwide in the next few weeks and months. Some are completed and some are nearing completion. 

He further reiterated the since the privatization process of 2013, there have been significant improvement in the power supply. He stated that power consumers nationwide are now saving money from the reduced use of diesel, due to the fact that they are running their generators for fewer hours and getting comparably more power supply than before.

The minister also mentioned that the ministry is continuing with the execution of its plans embedded in the road map to incremental, stable and uninterrupted power.

“We are on a journey to a destination of promise and eventual prosperity and I use this occasion to salute the efforts and contributions of all those who have brought us this far” Fashola said.
