NERC, CPC MUST HEAR HOW IBADAN DISCO ALLEGEDLY BILLS FOR NON-EXISTENT POWER – INDEPENDENT

AD

About a week ago, IBEDC informed residents of Lagos-bordering Ijoko-Ota that starting from this month September, they’d be paying considerably more to “enjoy” electricity. Following the announcement, the company has practically ceased to supply electricity to the area, which even prior to the announcement, hardly enjoyed up to five hours of supply per day. Residents of the area have decried the gross incompetence of IBEDC who still issues bill every month-end, although residents have been in utter darkness a week over.

A resident of Ijoko-Ota, Mrs. Bukky Akinmade, said “before IBEDC delivered the notice, power supply was mostly at night, and our house used to be billed N2,200 per month, but since that announcement was made about a week ago that henceforth we will  be paying N3,200, we have not seen light in our area.” It is our worry that IBEDC would bill us more without commensurate electricity supply or service improvement. Honestly, we are being ripped off with impunity,” she added.

Looking at IBEDC coverage area, pointers indicate that the company wants to eat its cake and have it considering that its coverage area spans four states namely Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Kwara States, which is posing more work than they obviously can handle. It was on this note that NERC sometime in June announced the suspension of IBEDC’s entire management board for failing to recover about N6bn loan, being obtained from CBN to upgrade their infrastructure and operations.
